About the etsy listing photo size
Etsy asks for listing photos of at least 2000 pixels on the shortest side. That number is driven by the zoom: when a shopper hovers or taps to enlarge, Etsy serves a much larger crop than the one on the page, and anything smaller than 2000 pixels falls apart at that moment — which is exactly the moment someone is deciding whether to buy.
The second rule from Etsy's own guidance concerns the first photo specifically: make it square or landscape, never tall. Etsy crops the lead image to a consistent thumbnail in search results and in your shop grid, and a portrait photo gets its centre pulled out, often cutting the top or bottom off the product. Shoot square, crop square, and the grid stays even across your whole shop.

Make the first photo square
Etsy crops the lead image for search thumbnails. A square original means what you framed is what shoppers see.
2000 pixels is a floor, not a target to exceed wildly
Going far beyond adds page weight without visible benefit, and slow listings lose mobile shoppers.
Keep lighting and background identical across a listing
Ten photos of the same item under different light read as ten different products. Consistency is what makes a shop look professional.
Leave a margin around the product
Etsy's crops vary by placement. Product touching the edge of the frame gets clipped somewhere.
