Facebook Cover Photo Size: 851 × 315

One image, two crops — get a cover that survives both the desktop strip and the taller mobile view.

100% private. Your image is resized on your own device using your browser. It is never uploaded to a server, and there is no account to create.

Works with images up to roughly 50 MP (about 8000 × 6000 px) depending on your device's memory. WebP export is unavailable in a few older Safari versions — the option is disabled automatically when that is the case.

How it works

Three steps, no account, no watermark.

Add your image

Drag a file onto the box, click to browse, or paste straight from your clipboard with Ctrl + V. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Frame it

The crop box is already locked to 851 × 315. Drag the image to move it and scroll or pinch to zoom until it looks right.

Download

Pick PNG, JPG or WebP. The file is compressed automatically to stay under Facebook's limit — or grab every Facebook size at once as a ZIP.

About the facebook cover photo size

Facebook displays a page cover photo at 851 × 315 pixels on a computer and at roughly 640 × 360 on a phone. Those are not the same shape: the desktop version is a wide strip, the mobile version is nearly square by comparison. Facebook takes one upload and crops it two different ways, which is why so many covers have a headline that is complete on a laptop and cut in half on a phone.

The reliable approach is to design at 851 × 315 and keep everything essential inside the middle 640 pixels of width. That central column is what both crops share. Add to that the profile picture, which overlaps the lower-left on desktop, and the practical safe zone becomes: centred, slightly right of middle, vertically in the upper two-thirds.

The complete list — click any row to load that size into the tool, or use the ZIP button to export all of them at once. Official means the platform publishes that figure itself; Recommended means it is the widely used standard where the platform publishes none.

Tips for Facebook

What actually makes the difference once the size is right.

Keep content in the central 640 px

Mobile crops the sides off. The middle column of the image is the only part guaranteed to appear on both desktop and phone.

Mind the profile picture overlap

On desktop, your page's profile photo sits over the lower-left of the cover. Do not put text or a logo there.

Skip small print

The cover renders 851 px wide at most and much smaller on some screens. Anything below a large heading size becomes unreadable.

Change it seasonally, not constantly

The cover is one of the few page elements that shows up in followers' feeds when updated — worth saving for something that matters.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Facebook cover photo size?

851 × 315 pixels on desktop. Facebook crops that same upload to about 640 × 360 on mobile, so design with the centre in mind.

Why does my Facebook cover look cropped on my phone?

Mobile shows a narrower, taller slice of the same image. Keeping key content within the middle 640 pixels solves it.

What size is a Facebook post image?

1200 × 630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio. That is also the right size for the og:image on your own website so links preview correctly.

What size is a Facebook event cover?

1920 × 1005 pixels. It is included in the full ZIP pack on this page along with every other Facebook size.

Should the cover be JPG or PNG?

JPG for photos. Facebook recommends PNG if your cover is mostly text or a logo, because it keeps flat edges crisp.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. All the resizing and compression happen inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
