Upload big, display small
1080 × 1080 gives TikTok's compressor enough to work with. Uploading at the display size produces a noticeably soft avatar.
Contrast against moving video
Your avatar usually sits over playing footage. A bright, flat background keeps it visible where a mid-tone photo vanishes.
Centre everything
The circular crop removes the corners of your square, and the display is small enough that off-centre subjects look like mistakes.
Keep it stable
